These six students began their unit in September, attending pastoral care classes and serving in the Medical Center as chaplains. They have served in many clinical areas such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, long term care, cardiology, stroke, heart failure, pediatrics, medical and surgical floors and the Emergency Room.
CPE is an experientially based educational learning model for those who want to explore their gifts of pastoral care in an institutional setting. It involves readings, classroom instruction, written assignments, group interaction, individual and group supervision and serving as a chaplain at the Medical Center. An extended model for CPE is used at NGMC, which involves a commitment of 24 hours per week for 17 weeks.
