Gainesville BOE approves new supt.'s contract

GAINESVILLE - The contract for the new Gainesville Supt. of Schools has been approved by the school board.

The current superintendent, Merrianne Dyer, confirmed Tuesday that the contract was approved Monday night. Dr. Dyer is retiring at the end of the current school year.

The salary for Dr. Wanda Creel, currently Supt. of Schools in Barrow County, was set at $163,000 a year and she will also be getting a $600-a-month travel allowance. The contract calls for Dr. Creel to live in Gainesville and includes $2,500 for moving expenses.

The contract is for three years: July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2017.

Also Monday night, the board voted to restore three days to this year's school calendar: Feb. 14 for students and teachers and Feb. 17 and May 29 for teachers only.
