Co-founders of the association are Featherbone Communiversity of Gainesville; Bonner County Communiversity of Sandpoint, Idaho; Milledgeville-Baldwin County Communiversity of Milledgeville, Georgia; Chaffey College of Rancho Cucamonga, California; and Community Futures Boundary, Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada.
A communiversity is a community-based public-private partnership that encourages community learning, entrepreneurism and economic development. The National Association of Communiversities is an affiliation of communiversities that operate independently but have formalized collaborative Declarations of Interdependence. The latest Declaration of Interdependence was signed between Featherbone Communiversity and Milledgeville-Baldwin Co. Communiversity.
The mission of the National Association of Communiversities is to promote the establishment of learning communities in the United States and Canada where the learning is collaborative, career-based, and cross-generational; public-private partnerships that encourage entrepreneurism, economic development and career mastery; and bring communities together in a "unique" way that is non-political and aggregates community educational assets for the long-term benefit of the entire community.
