Big first quarter propels Spartans past Fannin

BLUE RIDGE -- West Hall scored 35 first quarter points en route to a 49-7 win over Fannin County Friday night in Region 7-AAA action.

Zach English sparked the offensive explosion with three TD passes in the quarter, including two in a 53 second span. He connected with Tyquan Statham on a 17-yard strike and then hit Daniel Walsh on a 9-yard pass for a 14-0 lead six minutes into the game.

After a 49-yard TD run by Kwon Williams, English connected with Hunter Atkinson on a 20-yard TD for a 35-0 lead.

English finished 7-of-8 passing for 99 yards.

Cameron Millsap gave the Spartans (4-1, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) a 42-0 lead in the second quarter. English score on a 3-yard run in the third quarter.

Fannin County (1-4, 0-2) got its only score late in the fourth quarter.

The West Hall defense held the Rebels to just 170 total yards for the game.

The Spartans will get the ultimate test next week playing host to Class AAA No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Buford.
