DEMOREST - Piedmont College music professors Phillip Hayner and Joy Andre Hayner will present an evening of piano music at 7:30, Oct. 1, at the college's Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. The public is invited and admission is free.
The concert will feature works for duet (one-piano, four-hands) and duo (two pianos), including Schubert's "Fantasy in F-minor," considered by some to be his greatest work; "The Hobbit," an original composition by Dr. Phillip Hayner, featuring a series of brief "snapshots" of characters and events from Tolkien's famous book; Brahms' celebrated "Variations on a Theme of Haydn, op. 56b," for two pianos; and finally, Milhaud's "Scaramouche," a survey of three clownish moods, also for two pianos.
The Hayners have performed together for nearly 40 years in various ensembles-piano and organ duo, piano duet, duo-piano, and harpsichord duo.
