Dawson County pulls away from Lumpkin at home

DAWSONVILLE -- Just two games into the season, Dawson County is developing a knack for clutch play.

One week after sealing a late victory over East Hall, the Tigers pulled away from Lumpkin County in the fourth quarter, scoring two unanswered fourth quarter touchdowns in a 27-13 win in Dawsonville.

Cody Lamar did much of the heavy lifting for the Dawson offense, rushing 33 times for 213 yards and a score, while Jackson Putnam added 109 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Dawson's Chris Sayler also rushed for for 35 yards and a score. Meanwhile, quarterback Zack Buchan passed for 83 yards and a score, connecting with Dalton Edwards for a 15-yard touchdown.

The two teams traded leads in a tightly fought first half, entering the half knotted at 13-13.

But after a scoreless third quarter, the Tigers (2-0) began to pull away with touchdowns at the 7:04 and 5:05 mark.

Dawson County will travel to face North Forsyth next week, while Lumpkin County (0-1) will look to bounce back against White County at home.
