Shuttles will run to and from two temporary parking facilities - the Park & Ride lot (at the intersection of Thurmond Tanner Parkway and Atlanta Highway) and the "old Sam's Club" parking lot (on Frontage Road) - between the lots and the school from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 to noon on Friday.
The shuttle will pick up and drop off at the Student Center, the J. Foster Watkins Academic Building, the Hosch library and the flag pole at Lot C.
After 5 pm, students may park in faculty-staff parking spaces. Students needing a shuttle on campus after 6 pm can call Public Safety (678-717-1777) and a shuttle will be dispatched. Shuttle times will be adjusted as needed.
UNG spokeswoman Kate Maine says "some unexpected concrete repairs are required" for the structure.
"The parking deck has been closed, effective immediately," Maine said Tuesday morning, "so that engineers can evaluate the full scope of the necessary repairs. We expect to have a better picture of the timetable and work required in the next few days."
Maine says, in the meantime, the school has arranged for alternative parking in the Park & Ride lot off Atlanta Highway near Thurman Tanner Parkway and at the old Sam's Club location on Frontage Road "and we will have shuttles running continuously."
Maine said faculty members have been notified of the situation "and can accommodate students who may have trouble as we begin this process."
The parking deck was completed in 2008 and has 296 spaces. Maine says because those spaces "turn over" several times a day, the impact of having to close the deck is significant.
"We are working to resolve the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and hope this will minimize the impact and inconvenience."

UNG students are parking in the grass, since the parking deck is closed for now on the Gainesville campus
