GAINESVILLE - Peach State Bank & Trust will recognize a prominent Gainesville couple next week for their "lifetime achievements to the community and state."

The bank will celebrate Don and Lucille Carter Appreciation Day Aug. 29 from 2:00-4:00.

Don Carter is the founder of Don Carter Realty in Gainesville and former longtime member of the state Department of Natural Resources Board (he served for 29 years), who fought for years to bring a state park to Hall County. That dream was realized with the opening this summer of Don Carter State Park in North Hall on the shores of Lake Lanier.

In 2011, he was presented with the Gainesville Jaycees Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a former Gainesville City Commission (now city council) member, serving from 1966-1970.

Lucille Carter is a former member of the Gainesville Board of Education, having served in that capacity for 13 years. She is a former president of the Quinlan Visual Arts Center and is a former member of the Georgia Citizens for the Arts and a past president of the Georgia Mountains Historical and Trust. She received the Gainesville Rotary Club's Woman of the Year award in 1989.
