ATHENS -- Georgia already is compensating for injuries at linebacker as it enters its second week of practice.

Two outside linebackers, sophomore James DeLoach and freshman Davin Bellamy, had surgeries on Monday to repair left thumb injuries. DeLoach sprained the ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb and Bellamy suffered a broken thumb in Sunday's practice.

Georgia says each player is expected to return in time for the Bulldogs' opening game at Clemson on Aug. 31.

Coach Mark Richt says Monday's first day in full pads was "very physical, very intense."

Richt complimented tailback J.J. Green for a touchdown run in which he went over a pile of players, landed on his feet and scored.

Georgia's first scrimmage is scheduled for Wednesday.
