BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) A judge has ruled that comments made by a suspect in the shooting death of a Georgia baby can be used in his upcoming trial.

Police say De'Marquise Elkins shot 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in the face as he sat in his stroller on March 21. They say the 18-year-old suspect also shot the child's mother, Sherry West, after she refused to give him money in an attempted street robbery.

Glynn County Detective Roderic Nohilly said he and other officers were walking Elkins down a hall after interrogating him the day after the slaying. The detective said Elkins made some ``spontaneous'' comments about whether investigators had recovered a gun in the crime.

The Florida Times-Union reports that Judge Stephen Kelley ruled Friday that the statements can be used at trial.
