Football 2013: Newest Parson ready to lead Leopards back to glory

HOMER -- Biff Parson has literally traveled the football world. <br /> <br /> Parson was the offensive coordinator for the Frankfurt Galaxy in the now-defunct NFL Europe, even winning the World Bowl in 2006 as an assistant with the Galaxy.<br /> <br /> As a former high school assistant coach, he knows his football at all levels <br /> <br /> And after spending the past four years as defensive coordinator at Mary Persons and Lamar County, Parson has decided to come home.<br /> <br /> <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/72490953" width="500" height="375" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/72490953">2013 Banks County Preview</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/wduntv">WDUN TV</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p><br /> <br /> Parson took the reins at Banks County in the offseason and if the name sounds familiar to fans, it should. His father, Ronnie Parson, coached the Leopards from 1979-1988.<br /> <br /> "It's great to be back. This is home to me," said Parson, who had never had a head coaching job until coming back to Homer. "I had applied for other jobs, but I really think this is the perfect fit for me."<br /> <br /> Parson brings a wealth of experience to Banks County, having been a coordinator on both sides of the ball. He was part of four playoff teams the past four seasons, including advancing to the quarterfinals last year at Mary Persons.<br /> <br /> He feels that will come in handy at key times in games.<br /> <br /> "In my heart I'm an offensive guy. But having run defenses the last few years it has given me a better perspective of what you can do and what to expect," he said. "But I have good coaches, and I'll let them do their jobs."<br /> <br /> The Leopards could be a team waiting to ambush others in 2013. Their main loss was quarterback Tyler Hubbard to graduation, and they return five of their top linemen from a year ago. Junior Noah Trebec takes over under center and senior Wes Faulkner and sophomore Logan Hubbard should provide a capable backfield in a new pro-style, multi-formation offense.<br /> <br /> "Noah has made a lot of progress and we're adapting to the type of talent we have," Parson said. "But I have been pleased with how things have gone so far."<br /> <br /> The Leopards will switch to an eight-man front on defense and have a lot of young talent. Juniors Trent Cape, Jared Slaton, and Will Griffin will anchor the line while fellow juniors Matt Dilbeck (linebacker) and Malcolm Mitchell (free safety) will lead the other units.<br /> <br /> "We have a good group of juniors and seniors, and I really think we have a chance to something special this year," Parson said. "We need to get off to a good start to build some confidence and momentum. Hopefully we can do that."
