recently recognized as the Plant of the Year in its size classification by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP).
GAWP audits and conducts inspections of the water and wastewater plants in different size classifications across the state. GAWP inspects each plant for permit compliance, maintenance, record keeping and overall operational excellence.
The Dick Creek facility received the highest score among all of the applicants in its capacity classification and was selected as the winner in the "less than 1 million gallon, advanced treatment" category.
Forsyth County acquired the Dick Creek facility in January 2005 from a private owner. ESG Operations, Inc. partnered with Forsyth County on January 1, 2010, for the operation, maintenance and management of the county wastewater systems, including the facility.
"I am very proud of the staff of ESG Operations, Inc. for the great job they do every day and this recognition is a reflection of their extra effort," said Forsyth County Director of Water and Sewer Tim Perkins. "This recognition is also certainly due in part to the continual support the Board of Commissioners provides to the Water and Sewer Department, and their commitment to ensuring the county has a top-notch water and sewer system. Their ongoing support, along with the quality work of ESG, has resulted in Forsyth County water and
wastewater treatment facilities being repeatedly recognized for excellence in recent years."
The county's Water Treatment Plant, Parkstone Wastewater Treatment Facility, Windermere Wastewater Treatment Facility and Manor Water Reclamation Facility have each previously received similar accolades.
GAWP is a not-for-profit association founded in 1932 with membership of more than 4,000 water and wastewater treatment plant operators and managers, municipal and industrial officials and environmental managers, civil engineers, environmental engineers, scientists, manufacturers and their representatives, contractors, elected officials and others concerned with Georgia's water resources.
