LILBURN - Gwinnett County firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire in Lilburn this evening after a lightning strike reportedly caused a fire in the attic.

According to Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge, crews were dispatched to the 3900-block of Embassy Way SW at 7:13 p.m. after receiving an emergency call from the home's residents.

The occupants, 2 adults and 1 child, were alerted to the fire after a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the home's attic. Rutledge said the occupants later reported seeing a bright flash and hearing a loud popping sound during a brief thunderstorm, shortly before the neighbor alerted them to the fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:20, by which time all of the home's residents had been safely evacuated. Emergency responders were able to contain the blaze to the attic area, extinguishing the fire by 7:30, Rutledge said.

The home suffered slight residual firefighting damage, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
