CLAYTON - The Rabun County Sheriff's Office is warning people to avoid Shady Lane Road at Mathis Dam due to current flooding.

In addition, the warning issued at 4:30 p.m. Sunday says the potential exists for flooding on Old Highway 441 below Lake Rabun in the area of Joy Bridge and locations south due to water releases from Lake Rabun.

The advisory also warns those in and around Tallulah Falls to be alert to quickly-rising water levels.

According to the National Weather Service, at 3:48 p.m. Sunday, "Georgia Power reports opening a second gate at the Mathis Terrora Dam on Lake Rabun to reduce elevated lake levels resulting from recent heavy rainfall."
