GAINESVILLE - Georgia's newest state park - Don Carter State Park - will open on Monday, July 15.

Located north of Gainesville on Lake Lanier, the park is named for a Gainesville real state executive who served on the Georgia Department of Natural Resources board for 29 years and worked to establish Lake Lanier's first state park.

RV and tent camping will be available on a walk-in basis (advance reservations are not available yet). The lake and swimming beach will also be available. In addition, the boat ramps are ready, as is a paved, multi-use trail. Day-use facilities will be open; however, cabins will not yet be available.

"We are actually looking to hire a couple part-time housekeepers for the cabins," said Kim Hatcher, public affairs officer for Georgia State Parks. "Some people to clean them and to take care of the linen house."

Interested applicants can call 706-483-1074. Learn more about the park by clicking on the link below.
