GAINESVILLE - Two hearings are planned this week on the city of Gainesville's plans to annex 115 parcels of land - with or without the owners' consent.

The city Planning and Appeals Board will hold a called meeting and public hearing Tuesday at 9:00 to consider the annexation and zoning for the "islands," property not in the city but surrounded by property that is.

Later Tuesday, at 5:30, the city council will hold a public hearing and then plans to consider first reading of the annexations.

Both meetings will be held at the city's Justice Center/Public Safety Complex on Queen City Parkway.

The city has been discussing these annexations off-and-on for several years and has run into stiff opposition from some of the landowners in question.

More information on the affected property can be found by clicking on the link below, including a property owner list and overall island annexation map.
