Golf: Johnson, Lumpkin girls each qualify for state championship tourney

The Johnson girls golf team placed sixth and Lumpkin County's girls took 11th at the Class AAAA sectionals this week at Applewood Golf Course in Waynesboro, each team qualifying for the state championship tournament in the process.

Lauren Smith led the Lady Knights with a 94; Kristin Waters carded a 98; and Taylor Young shot a 106 for Johnson.

For Lumpkin County, Morgan Wood carded a 99; Taylor Gooch shot a 106; and Hannah Fowler rounded out the scorers for the Lady Indians with a 114.

Both teams travel to the Class AAAA state meet on May 20 at Nob North Golf Club in Cohutta.
