3 Hall students qualify for National History Day championship

GAINESVILLE - Three Hall County students recently qualified for the National History Day championship.<br /> <br /> Approximately 425 students participated in the state competition this year, from 28 middle schools and 20 high schools.<br /> <br /> Students compete as groups or individuals in the Junior (middle school) or Senior (high school) Division. There are five categories of competition: Historical Papers, Performances, Exhibits, Websites and Documentary Films.<br /> <br /> Katie Rose Dionne (9th grade at North Hall High School, Da Vinci Academy [DVA] alumna) won first place in the state competition for the fourth year in a row. This year Katie's performance was about the Battle of Cowpens in the American Revolution.<br /> <br /> Maddie Compton and Grace Van Hooser, sixth graders at DVA, won third place in Group Documentary Films for the Junior Division. Their film was entitled "Illuminating the Dark Ages: The Gutenberg Press."<br /> <br /> All three girls have qualified to compete in the national competition June 9-13 at the University of Maryland. Their coach is Kelly Schollaert from DVA.<br />
