The law requires child care workers to undergo comprehensive, fingerprint-based background checks. It is aimed at preventing those with a prior felony conviction from working around children. (See separate story for more details about the law. Link below.)
Miller, a Gainesville Republican, said passage of the bill and the signing of it by the Goverfnor, "further demonstrates the state's ongoing commitment to protecting the safety and well being of our children."
Miller added "...it is our responsibly to ensure their protection. All Georgia families deserve the peace of mind that their children are safe and properly protected when attending one of our state's many daycare facilities. House Bill 350 provides an extra measure of accountability toward safeguarding our children by requiring daycare workers to pass a national background check every five years. This ensures that we have the right people in place to care for our young people and reduces the likelihood of abuse."
