GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) and the Branch Banking and Trust Company (BB&T) will bring the BB&T Bank Bus to Gainesville's public housing residents next week to share financial strategies that can strengthen
residents' household budgets.

On the bilingually-staffed bank bus, residents may set up checking or saving accounts, learn to pay bills online, check their FICO credit score and explore the steps to home ownership, among other things.

There will be free helium balloons, gifts and drawings for summer family
items such as coolers.

The event will be held in the parking lot of the GHA main office at 750 Pearl Nix Parkway, near Queen City Parkway.

The bus features 11 computers, a private office for consultations, printers, a paper shredder and seating. The event begins Thursday, May 2, at 8:30 and ends at 4:30.

Founded in 1949, the GHA is home to about 1,600 individual residents in 495 units scattered throughout the city.
