DAWSONVILLE -- The race for the top seed in Region 7-AAA took a big twist on Friday after the East Hall boys soccer team outlasted Dawson County in a penalty shootout victory in Dawsonville.

The third-ranked Tigers couldn't find a way past a resolute Vikings defense in regulation or overtime, while the East Hall attack also stalemated against Dawson's defense, setting up the shootout.

The shootout went into sudden death, where the Vikings prevailed 8-7.

Sixth-ranked North Hall now leads the 7-AAA standings at 5-0 in the region and faces a huge showdown with fourth-ranked West Hall (4-1 in 7-AAA) on Tuesday. Dawson County (10-2, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Fannin County.

East Hall is still very much in the playoff picture, along with Buford (2-2 in 7-AAA).

In girls action Friday, the Dawson County girls defeated East Hall 5-0.

East Hall will travel to face White County on Tuesday.
