Typically, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to see Lanier at full pool by May 1. The lake was at full pool Saturday morning at a level of 1071.06. Rainfall of more than two inches on Thursday night helped boost the lake to its full level.
According to record, the level of Lake Lanier has not been this high since May 1, 2011. The level has risen 13 feet since January 1 thanks to regular rainfall during the winter and early spring.
The Corps has said it does not plan additional releases from Buford Dam at this point because rain has also fallen steadily along the entire basin, keeping water levels at capacity downstream, as well.
