When the six-hour job fair was over, some 1,150 people had taken advantage of networking with dozens of employers from across the region.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler made the trip from Atlanta to Gainesville to witness the job fair first hand. He said his office receives calls on a daily basis from job seekers who say they can't find the type of employment they want.
"On the other side of that coin, employers are coming to us all the time saying 'we can't find people to fill jobs,' so what we're seeing is there's a little bit of a disconnect between the job seeker and the companies out there that are hiring," said Butler.
He said that job fairs, such as the one sponsored by the Chamber with the support of GDOL, help to dissolve that disconnect.
