Baseball: Gainesville shuts out Cedar Shoals, readies for No. 1 Loganville

GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville prepared for its battle with top-ranked Loganville on Friday with a 10-0 Region 8-AAAAA win over Cedar Shoals Wednesday a Ivey-Watson Field.

Chandler Newton and Sims Griffith combined for the shutout, the Red Elephants 12th of the season.

At the plate, Michael Gettys led the way with two hits, including a two-run home and three RBI for Gainesville (17-2, 9-1 Region 8-AAAAA). Hunter Anglin had two hits and four RBI and Griffith had two hits and two RBI for the Elephants.

Gainesville will travel to Loganville on Friday to begin a home-and-home series against the defending Class AAAA champions. The two teams will return to Ivey-Watson on Monday.
