CUMMING - Ground was broken Wednesday for Forsyth County's new animal shelter.

Funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), the new shelter will be located on County Way off of Georgia 400.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Forsyth County Commission Chairman Pete Amos thanked voters for making the facility possible, and thanked all those involved in the project.

The approximately 13,700-square foot facility is slated for completion in early 2014.
