GAINESVILLE - A memorial service was held Tuesday morning in Gainesville for one of the co-founders of Riverside Pharmacy in Gainesville.

Charlie Johnson, who was 86, died Saturday at his home following an extended illness. He was buried Monday following a graveside service at Siloam Cemetery in Siloam, Georgia.

Johnson and Jo Ann Adams co-founded Riverside Pharmacy in 1954 and it is still in business today. Johnson retired from the pharmacy in 1998.

In 1976 the Gainesville Rotary Club named Johnson its Man-of-the-Year, and the city of Gainesville honored him with a "Charlie Johnson Day" proclamation.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville where he served as organist from 1953 to 1993. With Choral Director David Johnson he co-founded the Gainesville Chorale and was accompanist for that group for many years.
