The city of Harlem says it learned its police officers were basing traffic tickets on radar equipment that hadn't been certified properly by the state.
So the city is offering refunds on speeding citations issued between February and November of this year. The Augusta Chronicle ( http://bit.ly/1ckzB8n ) reports that's about 85 tickets in all.
The town says everyone who got a ticket during the 10-month period will be contacted after Christmas and offered a refund.
Officials say the department's radar equipment has now been calibrated, and officers will receive remedial training on how to use it.
Police in the Columbia County town can't use the equipment until the city gets a new state certificate.
