GAINESVILLE - Former Gainesville city councilman Danny Dunagan leads the other four candidates in the Gaineville mayoral race when it comes campaign contributions.

Reports filed with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission show that Dunagan had raised $22,505 as of Oct. 25 - the latest filing deadline. Rose Johnson had raised $3,830.50; Charles Alvarez $1,841.48; and Debra Harkrider, who says she is financing her campaign herself and not taking any contributions, $500.

On the other side of the ledger, Dunagan, shows expenses of $9,826; Johnson $3,707.78; Alvarez $1,457; and Harkrider $500.

The mayoral election is something new in Gaineville this year. Previously, the mayor's post was rotated every couple of years among members of the city council. Dunagan was mayor at the time he left the council this summer to run in this election, which will be held next Tuesday.
