Football: Five area teams remain in high school rankings

While there was some movement, the area's teams stayed the stayed the same in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association prep football rankings, released Tuesday.

Jefferson slid to No. 10 in Class AA after a narrow, 21-14 defeat to No. 4 Washington-Wilkes last week. The Dragons' (3-2, 1-1 Region 8-AA) only losses so far have come by a touchdown to two top five teams -- including a 41-34 defeat to Class AAA No. 4 North Hall. This week Jefferson will play host to undefeated Rabun County (5-0, 2-0), which is very close to moving into the rankings.

Meanwhile, North Hall (5-0, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) will travel to Fannin County on Friday (1-4, 0-2). Also, No. 1 Buford (5-0, 2-0) will take on White County (4-1, 2-0) at home on Friday.

In Class AAAAA, Gainesville held at No. 5. The Red Elephants (5-1, 4-0 Region 8-AAAAA) will play host to Salem (2-4, 1-3) on Friday.

And in Class AAAAAA, North Gwinnett (5-0, 3-0 Region 7-AAAAAA) remained No. 1 and will take on Mill Creek (4-2, 2-2) in a big 7-AAAAAA showdown. The Hawks are also receiving votes.
