UNDATED - Authorities worked a number of accidents on I-85 in north Georgia this morning as the result of icy road conditions.

In Franklin County, an overturned tractor trailer prompted the closure of both southbound lanes of I-85 about one mile south of State Rte. 17. That accident was reported around 2:30 a.m. Friday. The highway remained closed through 8 a.m.

Also, Jackson County closed the ramp from Highway 127 (Exit 137) onto I-85 southbound for a time Friday morning while crews uprighted an overturned tracotr trailer.

I-85 northbound and southbound at the Oconee River Bridge was affected because of icy conditions. At least four accidents occurred there between 6 and 7:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning of black ice on north Georgia roadways until 10 a.m. Friday. The areas most susceptible to icing in sub-freezing weather are untreated roads, bridges and parking surfaces, according to the statement.
