Fire Chief David Kimbrell said crews arrived on the scene in the 2000 block just after 2:20 p.m.
Even though there had been reports of someone in the home, Kimbrell said the structure was unoccupied.
"The units were able to make a quick entry and a very quick search and discovered there was no one trapped inside the home," Kimbrell said.
Investigators said the fire started in the area of a space heater. Kimbrell said the space heater had been plugged into an extension cord with other items. Investigators believe that cord overheated.
Kimbrell said the home sustained about 85 percent damage with an estimated loss total of $15,000.
