The consolidated school, called University of North Georgia, became official Tuesday morning, along with three other consolidations that have been in the works across Georgia.
As expected, the board appointed NGCSU President Dr. Bonita Jacobs as president of the consolidated school.
"The board's actions represent the culmination of a tremendous amount of work by many individuals, both on the campuses and at the System Office," said USG Chancellor Hank Huckaby. "We identified the opportunity, did our homework and then moved quickly, but thoroughly, to follow through."
Faculty and staff at the University of North Georgia have scheduled their first business meeting on January 11 to adopt the school's statutes and bylaws.
School officials had already announced a rolling tour to celebrate the vote.
