BUFORD -- The Buford and Dawson County girls softball teams definitely saved the best for last this season.

The two teams, ranked No. 1 and No. 4 in Class AAA respectively, will face each other Wednesday in a game to decide the regular season champion and No. 1 seed going into the Region 7-AAA tournament, which begins Saturday at East Hall.

Buford (19-1, 6-0 in region) won five straight Class AA titles and has experience in big games and the Lady Wolves' only loss this season has been to Class AAAAA fifth-ranked Allatoona. Meanwhile, Dawson County (14-6-1, 6-0) has built a solid season, which began with the Lady Tigers winning the prestigious Lanier Point Tournament.

Buford comes into the game riding a seven-game win streak and has allowed just one run in six region games. Dawson County has won seven of its last eight games, the only loss coming to Class AA fourth-ranked Union County.

The Lady Tigers also have another not so good streak having lost five straight games against Buford, the most recent loss coming in 2010 in the first round of the Class AA state tournament. Dawson County last beat Buford during the 2004 season.

The pitching matchup may be one of the best in the state at any level with Buford sending sophomore ace Bria Bush (12-1, 0.59 ERA) to the circle while the Lady Tigers will send Auburn signee Jenna Abbott to the circle.
Buford celebrates after winning the state title last season.
