According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jace Brooks of Suwanee will fill the unexpired term of Shirley Lasseter, who resigned in May.
Although the special election to fill Lasster's seat won't be held until November, attorneys for the county said Brooks could go ahead and take office immediately since he is the only candidate running for the post.
Lasseter was sentenced earlier this month to serve 33 months in jail after she pleaded guilty in May to accepting bribes.
Lasseter's son, John Fanning, and Hall County businessman Carl "Skip" Cain were also charged in the bribery scheme and also face drug charges. Their sentencing has been postponed.
