Proceeds from the event will help Action Ministries provide the hunger, housing and education solutions that help residents in need move toward independence.
Action Dash Gainesville will be held for the first time on the campus of Gainesville State College.
Race organizers are encouraging partipants to dress up in their favorite Action Hero costumes, noting that an Action Hero is an ordinary person who goes out of his or her way to help someone in need or is someone in need who works through adversity toward self-sufficiency.
Action Dash events also will be held on Labor Day in Athens, Atlanta, Augusta and Rome.
Sponsors of this year's event in Gainesville include Kauffman Tire, Lockheed Martin, Ed Voyles Automotive, Powerade Zero, Larabar and Georgia Power.
