DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County commissioners are ready to adopt an ordinance that bans the land application of sewage sludge to unincorporated parts of the county.

The drafting of the ordinance comes after a Forsyth County company planned to spray treated sludge at a site on Harry Sosebee Road at Lumpkin Campground Road/Highway 9 East in an area that was zoned for a residential planned community.

According to the Dawson County government web site, Waterscape Services LLC submitted a sludge management plan to the EPD Watershed Protection Branch in January 2012 with the goal of applying stabilized sewage from the Hampton Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to approximately 65 acres of land.

Public hearings on the ordinance are set for September 6 and September 20. Both will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room at the Dawson County Government Center.
