Forsyth County Fire Captain Jason Shivers said his team was called to the scene just after 12:45 p.m. Monday. He said two women were kayaking just south of Buford Dam when one of them lost control of her kayak and was thrown into the water.
"She was clinging to a tree limb in the middle of the river," said Shivers. "We were able to do a rapid pick-off of the individual and pulled her towards the shore at the Chattahoochee Park ramp in Forsyth County."
Shivers said members of the Gwinnett County swiftwater team happened to be conducting a training exercise south of the rescue site and came to assist.
The woman, who was not identified, was evaluated at the scene, according to Shivers. He said other than being extremely cold, she was not injured.
