OAKWOOD - Firehouse Subs opens in Oakwood next Tuesday.

The franchisee is Jerry Anderson and the location is 3650 Mundy Mill Road.

A special feature of each Firehouse Subs restaurant is the custom, hand-painted mural inside the dining room. The Oakwood Firehouse Subs mural features the Gainesville State College mascot, Laker T. Goose, fishing from a dock while watching a burning houseboat.

Firehouse Subs, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, is a 520-unit "fast casual" restaurant chain.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs has given $4.5 million to "hometown heroes" in 31 states.
