GAINESVILLE - A retired, longtime educator from Gainesville, who was also an accomplished tennis player and magician, has died.

V.C. Allison, 91, died Thursday following a short battle with heart disease.

Allison spent his entire career in education in the Hall County School System. He began as a science teacher at Lyman Hall School in 1949. He left in 1956 to go to Riverbend as principal but returned to Lyman Hall a year later as principal and served there until his retirement in 1980.

Through the years, he was active at Chicopee United Methodist Church, the 4-H Club, the Optimist Club and especially the Retired Teachers Association, where he was state treasurer for several years.

On the tennis courts, Allison won many tournaments and as an amateur magician enjoyed performing for all ages, especially his students.

The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 at Mason & Ward Funeral Home.
