The G-Braves went to the top of the ninth trailing the Indians 4-2 and facing the Tribe's closer, Tim Wood. Stefan Gartrell led off the inning with a single to center, and moved to second when J.C. Boscan walked. Terry Tiffee then drove a 3-2 pitch off the wall in right, scoring Gartrell from second to cut the lead to 4-3, as Luis Durango, who was running for Boscan, moved to third on the play. Jose Constanza was intentionally walked to load the bases and Wilson followed with a three-run double to left to move the G-Braves ahead of the Indians, 6-4.
The win capped a very long day of baseball for both Gwinnett (46-53) and Indianapolis (60-38). The game began at 1:05 p.m., but in the bottom of the first, heavy rain storms delayed the game for two hours and 27 minutes. When play resumed shortly after 3:45, both teams had trouble scoring.
Jaye Chapman (S, 7) completed a scoreless bottom of the ninth to seal the win for Gwinnett with his seventh save of the season. Dusty Hughes (W, 1-1) grabbed the victory after he worked a scoreless eighth inning, alongside one strikeout and a walk.
Gwinnett broke a scoreless tie with two in the top of the fifth. Jordan Parraz (2) led off the inning with a monster solo home run to left-center to make it 1-0. The ball cleared the 418-foot signage, which is the deepest part of Victory Field. Ruben Gotay followed with a single and moved to second when J.C. Boscan was hit by a pitch from Indians reliever Chris Leroux. Gotay stole third, but was thrown out trying to score on a bunt from the G-Braves' reliever Billy Bullock. Boscan made it all the way to third on the bunt attempt, as Bullock was safe at first. Constanza then drove in Boscan from third with a single to left, putting the G-Braves on top 2-0. The hit increased Constanza's Gwinnett record hitting streak to 21 games, giving him the longest hit-streak in the International League this season.
Eric Junge started the game for the G-Braves and pitched three scoreless innings with one hit and two walks. He was replaced by Bullock in the fourth. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, the Indians loaded the bases against Bullock forcing Gwinnett to go to the bullpen for Adam Russell. After striking out Brandon Boggs for the second out, Russell gave up a two-run single to Jose Morales to tie the game, 2-2. Eric Fryer then followed with an RBI single, putting Indianapolis on top 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Chase d'Arnaud pounded a triple to left center and scored on a sac fly to left by Anderson Hernandez. The hit gave the Indians a 4-2 lead, one they would hold onto until the G-Braves' top of the ninth.
Russell worked 1.2 inning of relief with three hits, one earned run and two strikeouts, as he subbed for Bullock in the sixth. Bullock gave up three hits and three earned runs in 2.1 innings, as he walked two and struck out two.
For the Indians, Wood (L, 4-4) was the last of four relievers used, as he worked the ninth inning, yielding three hits, four earned runs and three walks. Daniel Cabrera started the game and pitched a scoreless first inning with one hit, but did not return after the rain delay. Chris Leroux was the first out of the bullpen after the delay and worked 3.2 innings allowing four hits, two earned runs and three strikeouts. Bryan Morris posted 1.2 innings with one hit and two strikeouts and Doug Slaten also worked 1.2 innings as he surrendered one hit, one walk and struck out one.
Wilson led the Gwinnett 10-hit attack going 2-for-5 with three RBI and Terry Tiffee was 2-for-2 and the only other G-Brave with a multiple-hit night.
For the Indians, d'Arnaud and Fryer were both 2-for-4 on Wednesday.
The G-Braves conclude their eight-game road trip Thursday night at Victory Field the with season finale against the Indians.
