Georgia Power said early Tuesday morning that 2,900 customers across the state were without power after Monday night's storms. The company said about 1,200 of those without power were in eastern portions of metro Atlanta. About 1,000 were in northwest Georgia.
Authorities say a 59-year-old woman was struck by lightning on Heatherwood Court in Douglas County. County spokesman Wes Tallon tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the woman was taken to WellStar Douglas Hospital for treatment.
Reports to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City indicated that dozens of trees were toppled in several Georgia counties, including Baldwin, Bartow, Clayton, Floyd, Henry, Jasper, Jones, Laurens, Morgan, Washington and Wilkinson counties.
