GAINESVILLE - Just in time for the heat wave beginning to grip the Gainesville area, Flat Creek Baptist Church Thursday donated 26 fans to the Gainesville Hall County Senior Life Center.

City officials say they will be used for Gainesville's annual Beat the Heat Fan program which provides fans to older adults in the community.

Hot weather, such as Gainesville is expected to be subjected to over the next few days, can be especially dangerous for seniors. Experts say that with their thin blood and thin skin, seniors often don't feel the heat until it's dangerously too late.

Temperatures are expected to reach near record highs over the next few days, with some triple-digit readings possible. (See separate story.)
