ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan says the bowl will bid for Atlanta to host a semifinal or national championship game in college football's four-team playoff, starting in 2014.

The new College Football Hall of Fame is scheduled to open in Atlanta in 2014, and the first enshrinement ceremony in Atlanta could be held in 2015. Atlanta is home to the Chick-fil-A Bowl and an annual kickoff game, as well as the Southeastern Conference championship game.

Stokan said Wednesday his committee can make "a compelling bid" for a playoff game.

Any city can bid on the championship game. The two semifinal games will rotate among six sites, including the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl. The Chick-fil-A Bowl is trying to join that rotation.
