Cumming man dies in head-on collision with tree

CUMMING - A single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Cumming man Sunday remains under investigation.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office's website, 33-year-old James Ryan Symmes crossed over the center line of Hubert Martin Road near its intersection with Poplar Woods Drive around 6 p.m.

Officials said that's when the Chevy Trailblazer Symmes was driving went off the roadway and struck a large pine tree head-on.

They said Symmes was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The website states that a small terrier dog was also injured in the incident and has been taken to Orr Animal Hospital for treatment.
