GAINESVILLE - The Red Cross chapter in Gainesville is one of a number in and around Atlanta that are participating in a blood drive today in honor of the Snellville woman fighting a flesh-eating bacteria.

While the blood drive will take place at Snellville Middle School, Red Cross officials say blood donation centers in metro Atlanta as well as Athens and GAinesville, are accepting donations in Aimee Copeland's honor.

All centers are open until 3:00 this afternoon. Cards will also be available in the refreshment areas for donors to sign if they wish. The cards will be sent to the Copeland family.

Copeland - who was attending college in Carrollton - became infected when she fell into the water when a home-made zipline malfunctioned earlier this year. (See earlier story.)
