UNDATED - The 33rd annual Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) rolls out of Fort Oglethorpe Saturday morning, with about 1,200 people expected to start the weeklong journey.

Plans call for overnight stops in Dalton, Jasper, Roswell, Winder, and Mt. Airy, before the ride ends on Saturday, June 9, in Tiger in Rabun County.

The 72-mile Roswell to Winder leg of the trip will cross southern Hall County between Buford and Flowery Branch on Thursday.

The riders will pass through Gillsville on Friday morning with a rest stop at Liberty Baptist Church on County Line Road plus they'll go through Lula on the way to Habersham County.

Habersham County is hoping to make the most of the stop in Mt. Airy, rolling out the "red carpet" and hoping to roll in thousands of dollars for the county's economy. BRAG officials say the group generally spends about $75,000 per day on food and incidentals. Habersham County officials also are going use the opportunity to promote the community to the riders and their families in hopes that they will return for another visit at a later date.

The Habersham 9th Grade Academy will be the host site for those bicyclists who camp. Others will be staying in hotels and motels.

The Clarkesville Better Hometown Program, the Cornelia Better Hometown Program and the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce are among the groups involved in setting the stage for BRAG's arrival and overnight stay. The chamber will provide shuttle buses from the 9th Grade Academy to both Cornelia and Clarkesville for the riders and their guests in order to showcase those parts of the county.

The City of Clarkesville host a rest stop on Saturday morning from 6:00-10:00.
