Gainesville native Maddox named to SEC's All-Freshman team

Gainesville High grad Will Maddox was named to the Southeastern Conference's All-Freshman team by the league's coaches on Tuesday.

A second baseman for the University of Tennessee, Maddox started all but one game for the Volunteers in 2012. Batting leadoff for 42 contests, Maddox paced Tennessee with 32 runs scored, 79 total bases, 212 at-bats and a .374 on-base percentage.

Elsewhere on the All-SEC team, Georgia placed two players -- Curt Powell and Alex Wood -- on the second team, while the Bulldogs' Hunter Cole was also named to the All-Freshman squad.
