LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County police have arrested one of their own officers and charged him with electronically furnishing obscene materials to minors.

Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith identified the officer as David D. Lowe, 26. Smith said Lowe graduated from the GCPD Academy just two weeks ago on May 10. Lowe has been charged with electronically furnishing obscene material to minors; additional charges are under investigation.

Smith said Gwinnett's Special Victims Unit received a tip from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation regarding explicit video posted on a website designed for use by minors. The website in question, www.myyearbook.com, allows users to create a profile which includes an age. The website then limits contact between users based on an appropriate age range. Smith said the GBI reported that tip indicated that an unknown person had created such a profile and used it to share explicit video with minors.

The investigation led Gwinnett Police SVU detectives to Lowe's home Friday, where they seized computers.

Following his arrest, Lowe was presented with a "notification of intent to terminate." Lowe resigned in lieu of this termination, according to Smith.
