GAINESVILLE - Friends of the Parks had plenty of help releasing 1,500 butterflies in Gainesville's Wilshire Trails Park Sunday as as estimated 4,500 people showed up for the annual event. That's about a thousand more than the estimated crowd a year ago.

In addition to the butterfly release and paper sailboat races for the kids who were on hand, there were opportunities to learn about conservation at several booths.

Friends of the Parks is a non-profit that works in partnership with Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department, focusing on restoring the Rock Creek Greenway Corridor, acquiring land for parks and greenways, and maintaining those greenways.
