NGCSU selects new dean for Mike Cottrell School of Business

DAHLONEGA - North Georgia College & State University has selected Dr. Donna T. Mayo as the dean for the university's Mike Cottrell School of Business. Mayo, who is currently dean and professor of marketing in the School of Business at Dalton State College, will assume her new role effective July 1.

"Dr. Mayo is a dynamic, engaging leader," said Pat Donat, vice president for academic affairs at North Georgia. "She has the personal qualities and professional experience to guide the school's consolidation and advancement efforts. We look forward to her arrival this summer."

During her 10 years at Dalton State, Mayo led the School of Business' effort to obtain AACSB accreditation. She held faculty positions at Middle Tennessee State University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. She has also served as a consultant to more than 20 national, regional, and local organizations.

Mayo will be taking office in the midst of the consolidation of North Georgia and Gainesville State College, and on the heels of a reaffirmation of AACSB accreditation and the donation of a $1 million gift from BB&T to establish the BB&T Ethical Business Leadership Center.

Former dean of the Mike Cottrell School of Business, Dr. Max Burns, took office as the president of Gordon College on January 1. Dr. Richard Oates, who has served as interim dean since then, will resume his role as associate vice president of academic affairs.

"We are delighted to have Dr. Mayo join us," Oates said. "Her credentials as a leader and as an academician are well documented. I know she will serve the Mike Cottrell School of Business and the surrounding region well."
